UNIVERSITY OF ARIZONA – TUCSON, AZ
The College of Humanities at the University of Arizona seeks an administrator/scholar who can provide energetic and visionary leadership to create and manage a new School of International Languages, Literatures, and Cultures (SILLC). This School will be an alliance consisting of the Departments of Classics, East Asian Studies, French and Italian, German Studies, and Russian and Slavic Studies, as well as the Programs of Africana Studies, Critical Languages, and Religious Studies. A vibrant part of the College of Humanities, these departments and programs are fundamental to the core mission of the University. The successful candidate will hold tenure in one of the departments in the School. The Directorship is a twelve-month, full-time position involving administration, teaching and continuing scholarship. It is anticipated that the candidate will be appointed at the rank of Professor or Associate Professor with tenure. The Director reports to the Dean of the College of Humanities.
Currently, there are 54 FTE faculty members, 8 staff members, and a full-time enrollment of approximately 470 undergraduate majors, 650 minors, and 93 M.A. and Ph.D. students in the allied departments.

The Director will develop and implement a strategic plan for securing grant and donor support for academic enterprises. Additionally, the Director will develop international, collaborative, and interdisciplinary initiatives in languages, literatures, cultures, new media and digital humanities, or other areas as yet unexplored. The Director will also provide leadership and coordination for the School’s business functions and organization.
The Director will work closely with the School’s Executive Committee, comprised of the department heads and program directors. The departments and programs in the School will maintain existing governance, academic programs, and identities while engaging in scholarly collaboration, international initiatives, and interdisciplinary curricular innovation within the SILLC.
The Director must have an earned doctorate in one of the School’s represented research areas, a record of successful administration with increasing responsibilities (preferably as a department head or chair), and the qualifications to be appointed as a tenured faculty member of the University of Arizona.

The School of International Letters and Cultures (SILC) at Arizona State University invites applications for a full-time, multi-year lecturer in Classics, beginning fall semester, August 16, 2010.
Required qualifications include: M.A. in Classics or a closely related field awarded by June 30, 2010; one year of experience teaching ancient Greek or Latin language; ability to teach courses in Classical Civilization. Desired qualifications include a Ph.D. in Classics or a closely related field. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses, to include: language and literature courses in both ancient Greek and Latin; mythology, an on-line course in Greek and Latin roots of medical terms; and courses on topics in antiquity designed by the candidate. Other duties may include mentoring students and professional service. Anticipated teaching load is 4/4.

UNIVERSITY OF MANITOBA – WINNIPEG, MB, CANADA
Post-doctoral Fellowship in Roman Archaeology, 2010-2011
With funding from the Canada Research Council (CRC) Chair in Roman Archaeology, the Department of Classics, University of Manitoba, will offer a one-year Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Roman Archaeology to commence July 1, 2010 (start date flexible). This postdoctoral fellowship will have an annual value of $43,000 Canadian, with a research allowance of $2,000. The postdoctoral fellow will be expected to undertake an independent research project dealing with a topic in Roman Archaeology or Art. The supervisor of this postdoctoral fellowship is Dr. Lea Stirling, CRC Chair in Roman Archaeology (Tier 2), whose interests encompass both archaeology and ancient art. Applicants should be not more than three years beyond their completed PhD; candidates with a defense scheduled by May 2010 are welcome to apply.
