CORNELL COLLEGE – MOUNT VERNON, IA
Temporary teaching position in Classics/Latin.
Cornell College invites applications from candidates to teach any or all sections of the following courses during the 2008-09 academic year: CLA-216 Classical Mythology (Term 2: September 29 - October 22, 2008); LAT-101 Beginning Latin I (Term 3: October 27 - November 19, 2008); LAT-101 Beginning Latin (Term 4: November 24 - December 19, 2008); LAT-102B Beginning Latin II (Term 6: February 2 - 25, 2009)
Cornell College is a private residential liberal arts college of about 1200 students and 80 faculty members. The campus, listed on the National Registry of Historic Places, is located in Mount Vernon, approximately 15 miles east of Cedar Rapids and 20 miles north of Iowa City, the site of the University of Iowa. Cornell College has attracted national attention for its distinctive academic calendar under which faculty teach and students enroll in one course at a time in month-long terms.
Master’s degree required; ABD and some college teaching experience preferred. A furnished apartment will be provided for the month.

EMORY UNIVERSITY – ATLANTA, GA
Betty Gage Holland Chair in Roman History: The Department of History at Emory University invites nominations and applications for the newly endowed Betty Gage Holland Chair in Roman History. The department seeks an outstanding scholar with a distinguished record of publication, teaching, and service. Scholars at the level of full professor in all periods of Roman history, including Late Antiquity, are welcome to apply. Ability to contribute to both the undergraduate and graduate programs in ancient history is required. The Department of Classics and World Religions at Ohio University is seeking a PhD/ABD Latinist. This is a one-year position. The primary teaching responsibility is Latin. A preferred candidate will work effectively with students, faculty and staff from diverse backgrounds.

THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY – COLUMBUS, OH
The Department of Greek and Latin seeks applications from Classicists for a one-year position as Senior Lecturer. The successful candidate must have all requirements for the PhD completed by September 1, 2008. Teaching duties will include teaching a variety of undergraduate courses in Greek and Latin Language and Literature and in Classical Humanities, (e.g. Classical Mythology, Greek Literature in Translation, Greek and Roman Civilization, Ancient Epic). Classes range from small language classes to large lectures (180+). Other duties include advising and counseling students and supervising Graduate Teaching Associates. A generalist Ph.D. or A.B.D. is sought who should be prepared to teach first- and second-year Greek and Latin, Mythology, and Greek and Roman Civilization courses.
