Austin POWERS Sample Abstract
This sample abstract gives instructions for the preparation of abstracts and observes the guidelines for formatting abstracts. The text of this abstract was printed using 11-pt. font. The author and title were printed using 12-pt. font. The APA will publish a volume of abstracts of papers to be presented at the 135th Annual Meeting in San Francisco, California. To be included in this book, your camera-ready abstract must be received no later than September 5, 2003. Abstracts must not exceed one page in length. Please observe the following guidelines:
1. Please remember that abstracts are published as they are submitted. The camera will not improve the quality of the type submitted. Abstracts will be published at 35% of their original size and published in a 5.5 x 8.5 inch format. You must follow our instructions, or your abstract will not be printed.
2. Preparation of camera-ready materials on laser or letter-quality printers has become the accepted standard. However, abstracts may continue to be prepared on typewriters provided that a clean, uncorrected text is submitted for reproduction. Regardless of how the camera-ready page is produced, please submit the original copy to the APA office. Photocopies, facsimiles, or e-mail submissions are not acceptable and will not be included in the Abstract Book.
3. If you must submit a new original for any reason, please include a dated cover letter to assure use of the correct submission. Please make every effort to avoid having to do this.
4. Guidelines for laser- or letter-quality printers: (a) Set the top margin at .8 inch, the left- and right-hand margins at 1 inch, and the bottom margin at 1 inch. (b) Your name and abstract title should be in 12 pt. font. The text should be in 11 pt. font. Line spacing should be between 1.25 and 1.5. These specifications must be strictly observed. (d) The authors name (first name first, then surname in capitals) should appear in the top left corner. The paper title should appear in the upper right-hand corner, in upper and lower case letters. Use the same title as in the abstract submitted for Program Committee approval. (e) Skip two lines between the author name and title and the first line of the abstract.
5. Guidelines for conventional typewriters are identical to the ones above, with the addition of the following: use an electric typewriter with a carbon ribbon. Poor quality type will reproduce poorly.
6. If you wish to have your abstract included in the electronic version of the program, please consult the APA web site for instructions at www.apaclassics.org
7. NOTE: SEND ONLY AN ELECTRONIC VERSION OF YOUR ABSTRACT TO THE APA WEB SITE.
8. Please do not fold your abstract when mailing. Use cardboard backing if possible. Abstracts must
be received no later than September 5, 2003
