Cancellation
of Child Care Service at 2005 Annual Meeting
I regret to announce that the APA has
cancelled the child care service that we had planned to
offer at the upcoming annual meeting. In the e-mail that
I sent to the membership on December 1, I reported that
only one family had signed up to use the service this
year. As of Friday, December 10, the deadline for advance
registration, that was still the case.
The e-mail I sent on December 1 was
not the only effort we made to publicize the service. It
was advertised in both the August and October
Newsletters. The
Women's Classical Caucus, as usual, attempted to help us
by publicizing the service on its list serve. WCC also
continued its practice of offering its members support
for childcare fees from its Equity Fund. In addition,
KiddieCorp, the company which has provided the service
for us for over 5 years, made contact with every family
that had ever used the service. However, no additional
families submitted registrations.
